Progress reports went home on October 6 and my students had an activity to write their specific, personal goals and strategies to maintain or improve their grades. Examples could include "I will turn in EVERY homework assignment." "I will ask for help if I don't understand." "I will push myself to stay focused."
Please look at all the other teachers' blogs. And feel free to email me anytime. Thank you for your support.

1. Progress reports will be sent home on Friday, October 6. Half way mark to the first Report Card/Parent Teacher conference.
2. Attendance and getting to school on time are KEY for success in every area at Ray. Good habits get established and make everything else easier! 3. ALL the research always shows that the best way to become a better reader is to read. So I require students to do at LEAST 20 minutes every day outside of school. The Chicago Public Library is a great resource. The one important message right now is to get the EMERGENCY INFORMATION form completed and returned. I can send another blank home if needed.
I still repeat my recommendations to get books on audio CD at the library and listen in the car, during chores, or in bed at night. Just because a student doesn't read independently, doesn't mean they can't have access to good literature and hear books. Thanks for all your support and keep in touch. Mary Kane I am looking forward to a very happy and productive school year. Students are more mature and can put their good effort into every class. We are lucky to be at Ray School where the Administration and the Staff work so well together. With supportive parents, WE'VE GOT IT ALL!
Please email if you have any concerns or questions. I will send individualized notes home with your child regarding academics and behavior. This blog is intended as a general pep talk sometimes and a calendar of events. I resolve to get better at the technology of posting links and the latest learning opportunities. Check the other teachers' websites. They have tons of good information too. Again, Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year. Ms. Kane Read! Go to the Public Library and you'll be amazed at what you find. .Borrow audiobooks for car trips.
Exercise! Play games with friends. Practice cooperation, winning and losing. Do something to help others. Everyone needs a favor and those skills transfer to real life work. Make yourself do something you thought you didn't like or couldn't do. Write letters. Keep up with the local, national and international news. Plant a garden and make scientific observations. Make a chart, graph or sketch. It is great that parents check teachers' blogs regularly. For some subjects, the blogs are complete homework help, class notes and links to even more information.
My blog will be short. It might be a variety of topics. I get carried away with inspirational writing. Academic cheerleading for the students! I like to post news about things to do in Chicago. I also have many recommendations about special education for parents to read . Stay tuned. And please send comments or emails any time. Thanks for all your support. And what a great year it will be. Ray is truly a wonderful school full of hard working, imaginative and kind students.
I will update my blog every Monday morning. I will try to keep it short and sweet! Remember to look at other teachers' blogs; they include very cool links and it's good to know what's going on in the other classrooms. UPCOMING EVENT: Open House Thursday September 22, 5:00 PM. Finally, enjoy this beautiful weather and take advantage of opportunities the City of Chicago may provide in your neighborhood. It's surprising to see what's out there.
