No school for students on Wednesday, April 18. Parents come to pick up report cards. Please make sure your student reads - or listens to books - EVERY DAY. Stick with a book for a week. Try different genres. Try to get information for starting or improving a hobby. Nothing helps reading like reading every day. Thanks for that!

Sorry I got behind on my blog posts. How DOES time seem to go so fast?
We all know that the third week of March is PARCC standardized testing. Then it's VACATION!!! We come back to school on April 2. If you're not traveling, try to do one fun thing everyday in your hometown. There are small museums too, not only the big ones. The Public Library offers museum passes to check out for a week. As long as you're at the Library - check out an armload of books for reading at night before bed. Look at their great selection of Audiobooks. That works so well for traveling and for listening in bed at night. Even though it is a vacation from school, please find a time to drill the multiplication facts or addition and subtraction facts. Make it a game. Have a reward ready if you child masters all of the 7's for example. Thank you for everything you do. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Ms. Kane We are officially in the second half of the school year. The students are closer to their next grade than last year's.
It takes some toughness to deal with our current winter weather. It means dressing right with all the needed accessories as well as leaving extra time to get to school on time. The calendar for the next school year is available on most teachers' blogs and on the school website. There will be no school for students on Friday, February 2. Teachers will meet and work on report cards. Report cards will be sent home on Friday, February 9.
Please read EVERY DAY! Listen to audiobooks on your phone or in the car. Quiz math facts while you wait for laundry to finish. I don't want my students to fall behind. They have great attitudes about wanting to do well. They just need constant encouragement that they will catch up. Staying organized with Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies is a real challenge but as I always say - ORGANIZATION IS THE HARD PART - the rest is easy.! Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Thanks Ms. Kane Third and Fourth Grades ENTER through the MAIN Entrance door.
Fourth grade will DISMISS through the Main Entrance door. Third Grade will DISMISS through the Main Entrance door and walk to their numbers on the North Playground. Thank you and keep reading and exploring It's cold and everybody is busy and we still have lessons to learn in school. Make sure you are practicing some of the basics over the break so you don't forget!
Multiplication facts. Signt words. Social studies current events. Scientific observations. Visit the Chicago Public Library. Visit their website! There is so much good information and so many wonderful resources. As long as you're out, take advantage of some of Chicago's museums. Passes can be checked out at the library. As we start the new quarter, with a new hour from the clock (!!!), I give the same pep talk I always give. Start fresh Get a positive "can-do" attitude. Ask questions. Clarify directions. Teachers and assistants are ready to help at every turn. Stay caught up! Don't give up the fight to complete EVERY assignment. You can do it! We wouldn't assign the work if we thought you couldn't. Give yourself a break when you deserve it. Be a good steward of your time! Organization is EVERYTHING. The rest comes easy. The first grading period comes to an end next week. Students have Friday, November 3 off and teachers will be working hard in the building. Parent teacher conferences and Report Card pick-up follows on November 15.
